UPCOMING SABBATICAL Print E-mail
First Church, Guilford has a wonderful provision for its clergy.  After six years of service your full-time ministers are entitled to four months of sabbatical in addition to his or her vacation.  Not all churches have such a benefit, but many churches that are close to major universities do. Despite the myth that clergy only work on Sunday, this is really not the case.  Most clergy spend long hours trying to meet the worship, educational, community, administrative, mission, and pastoral needs of the church.  We never get it all done, but we are often left exhausted.  Therefore, sabbaticals are a time to recuperate and rejuvenate.  They are also a time for the clergypersons to improve themselves in some way that would be beneficial for the church.
