BLESSING OUR TRANSITIONS Print E-mail
In my calendar, May and June are filled with graduations. Each one makes me remember those of the past as well as anticipate those yet to be. As I leave now to attend one, I’m moved to share a few reflections about this great life-transition!

Both those who walk onto the platform and receive a diploma, and those who sit and watch them do so, are celebrating an accomplishment. But in many other ways, the two are often having different experiences. For the graduate, the focus is forward-looking – hovering at a new horizon. For parents, grandparents, Godparents, aunts and uncles, the focus is looking back – hovering at the ending of childhood. The graduates are being invited into a future; parents and others are being asked to release them from the past. How can we enact our faith in a way that spiritually honors all of this? How can we hover here faithfully and fully? I find in scripture a simple yet powerful way: we shall mark this great transition with a blessing.

All UCC churches in Connecticut are being asked to contribute cookies. The UCC Women of Connecticut are coordinating this welcome.  If you are willing to contribute cookies, please bring your cookies to the Fellowship Hall, Sunday June 10 or June 17 before 3:00 PM or call Betsy Work, 458-7708.
