Church School this Sunday: Children and Youth from Pre-K through 8th grade are invited to gather in Church School this morning following the Baptism. This morning, Pre-K to Grades 4 will be learning about Pentecost and preparing for Children's Day on May 23! Be sure to be here next week as we continue our preparations. Question for the car: At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came and filled the disciples with the "flame" of God's spirit. How does each of us show the Holy Spirit?
Church School Mission Project: Last week, the Book Fair raised $167 for Heifer International. We are able to send a family in need a llama! We will continue to collect "Ark Banks" through May 16th. Let's see what we can send along!

Inquirer/New Member Meeting Sunday, May 16, 11:30am in the Minear Library in Spencer House (corner of Broad & State Streets.) We invite anyone interested in learning more about First Church, or in becoming a member, to attend. Refreshments will be served. Save the Date! May 21st 6:30pm for an Arabic Dinner - Join us in celebrating the Khammas Family’s first year in America, with an Arabic dinner catered by Nagam in Fellowship Hall. Reservations recommended: $15 adults, $7 children under 12. Childcare will be provided. Sign up after worship or call the First Church office 453-5249 to make reservations. Nagam’s Arabic cooking classes and brunch have been very successful. It’s not too late to reserve a place for her final Spring Cooking Class Dinner Saturday, May 15th from 4-6 pm hosted by Betsy & George Platia – call Ann West: 453-0291.
Change of Venue for “Getting it Together with John’s Gospel” Join us on Saturday, May 15th from 9:00am – 3:00pm in Griswold Hall. Wayne Rollins will lead us through various ways of looking at the gospel of John- Getting to Know John: Surveying the Terrain; The Four Faces of God; Christology and Paradox: the I-Am sayings and Zen; and John’s Men But Especially John’s Women–and Us. Snack & lunch will be provided. A $5 donation is appreciated, but not necessary. To help us in food planning, please register with the Church Office (203 453-5249). See you then!
Pinchbeck Scholarship Applications Due by May 24th . Applications are available for students from First Church going to 2 or 4 year schools for the 2010-2011 academic year; forms are in a manila envelope on the door of the church office. Journeys in a Jet Age: If you would be interested in volunteering as a crew member for the children's program, Journeys in Jet Age, August 2nd through 5th, (9 a.m. to 12 noon) please contact Lisa (203-453-3324) or Betsy Work (203-458-7708).
Peace Trust Kanyakumari : Following the tsunami that devastated South Asia in 2004, Rev. Gnana Robinson, president of Peace Trust Kanyakumari sprang into action with the assistance of UCC Global Ministries. When fishermen lost their boats, Peace Trust replaced 45 boats, complete with engines and nets. An additional 35 boats will be provided in the future. Carpenters who lost everything received new tools so that they could repair the boats. When children skipped school because they lacked uniforms and supplies, Peace Trust supplied them. (May 14 excerpt from the UCC Calendar of Prayer).

We offer Inquirers’ Meetings to those interested in learning more about First Church and the United Church of Christ. These meetings are also for those who seek membership, and are especially helpful to those coming from a different denomination or faith background. The Inquirer/
New Member Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 6th at 11:30am in the Minear Library in Spencer House. Child care is available; please call the Church Office to request it.
