SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT
20 March 2011 -- 10:00 a.m.
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.
Godspell
Please refer to the Godspell program
Children and Godspell: We are excited to share with our church family the story of Jesus’ life and ministry through the musical Godspell. Jesus and his followers act out the parables with humor and slapstick, which we think will be enjoyed by all ages. As the musical tells all of Jesus’ life, the second half includes a depiction of the crucifixion. If you think that would be too intense for your child to watch, please feel free to exit with the Junior Choir after the song “We Beseech Thee.” Fellowship Hall will be available and we welcome you to remain for the reception following service.
Nursery care is available for infants and small children throughout the service; please ask an usher for directions.
After Godspell we invite everyone to Fellowship Hall for fellowship and refreshments, hosted today by the Pilgrim Fellowship Committee.
Greeters: K.C. Long and Susan Roessler
Ushers: Kathy Abbatello, Louis Zotti, Daniela Giordano,
Pacific Giordano, Betsy Work, Clyde Work
CDs of worship services are available to sign out in Spencer House; sermon recordings are on our website: wwwfirstchurchguilford.org.
Deaconess for March is Holly Langewisch (203-453-3977). Please make her aware of new births, adoptions, or anyone who needs a note of encouragement or sympathy. Call Mary Norris (203-457-9483) for information about our Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Deacon for March is Rebecca Bunting (203-458-1783.) If you have questions, concerns or compliments, please speak with her.

Heifer Book Sale March 27th: Heifer International is a Church School mission project each year. Heifer combats poverty world-wide by giving animals to people -- the animals provide food, clothes, extra income and offspring which are, in turn, passed on to other families. Through the Book Sale we “pass on our gifts.” Please leave any books you wish to donate (in good condition, no text books), in Fellowship Hall or the Grade 1 classroom today. On March 27, all are invited to the Book Fair after worship.

Donations accepted during set-up hours: Wed., Mar. 30th 7 -9pm; Thurs., Mar. 31 7-9pm; & Fri., Apr. 1 10am-3pm. Saleable items only in good condition, please. No large appliances, exercise or sports equipment, computers/accessories accepted. Contact person: Cindy Magee 203-453-5487.
UCC Missionary in Tsunami area: We are grateful that the home of Jeffrey Mensendick, UCC Missionary serving in a university in Sendai, suffered only minor damage in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami so that he was able to offer immediate shelter for 15 students whose residences sustained severe damage. Within hours of the tragedy, our Global Missions office wired money from our 2010 One Great Hour of Sharing offering to respond to the many needs. Other larger sums will be sent through normal channels. Our 2011 OGHS contributions to be collected on April 3rd, will provide, with other Global Ministry support, a base for next year's emergencies. To make a donation online, please visit http://www.ctucc.org/donate. Or checks may be made payable to “First Congregational Church” with “Pacific earthquake/tsunami” on the memo line and dropped in the offering plate. Our donations will join other UCC relief efforts.
Silver Lake Summer 2011! Online registration underway for week-long camps at our UCC camp in Sharon, CT. Experience this life-changing place of community, fun, and faith for those currently in Grades 3–11. Visit www.silverlakect.org. Speak with Lisa Horst Clark for more information.
A banana to teach an Easter week lesson? In the Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Azariyya St. Lazarus Day, the day after Palm Sunday, Orthodox Christians celebrate with a procession to the tomb of Lazarus. On the 500 meter walk, venders sell bananas to worshippers to eat as they walk. Why? Peeling the banana symbolizes the unbinding of Lazarus, and the ultimate unbinding in the days of Holy week – one is reminded of how Jesus unbinds us and sets us free. (March UCC Calendar of Prayer)
Guilford Food Bank Needs: 100% fruit juices; canned fruit, tuna, ham, hash, stews; pancake/meal/potato/cake/mac & cheese mixes; dry milk, cereal. You may leave your donations in the narthex.
