Pakistani Flood Relief: Large numbers of people in all four of Pakistan's provinces have been driven from their homes in the area's worst flooding in more that 80 years. Church World Service Pakistani staff are working urgently to provide the basics: food packages, shelter materials and non-food essentials to families sin need. CWS medical teams & mobile health facilities are helping to provide emergency health services. You are invited (even urged!) to contribute to this effort by writing a check payable either to: Church World Service or to First Congregational Church, Guilford, FOR "Pakistani Flood Relief" and put it in the offering plate or turn it in to the Church Office as soon as possible.
From the UCC Calendar of Prayer for August, presented by the Board of Community and World Concerns: Problems far away often seem more urgent and exciting than problems down the street. The First Congregational Church of Branford does not think so. Are you aware of Camp Totoket for 6-13 year olds? It is a free one-week camp for the “invisible” children of HIV/AIDS established by the Church in 1996. While the children are not sick, someone in their family is. These young children are confronted every moment of their lives with an illness that might take away their parent, grandparent, brother or sister. The camp is held at Killam’s Point in Branford, the Church’s shore property, where kids can play, swim, fish, paint or draw, and play music. In bridging the New Haven – suburban gap, the camp uses volunteer staffers to bring year-after-year support and stability to the campers who return each summer.
