ANNOUNCEMENTS
Nursery Volunteers Needed! Because our regular care-givers take a summer break, we ask for volunteers to staff the nursery during the 10am service in July and August. For ‘Safe Church’ policies, we ask that two unrelated people sign up together to provide this service to our little people. To volunteer contact Lisa Horst (203) 453-3324.
Big Y, Bishop’s Orchards, & Stop & Shop Cards: Each Sunday after worship these gift cards are available for purchase for $100 each– in cash or with a check made payable to First Congregational Church. The church receives a percentage of each card sold.
From the UCC Calendar of Prayer for July 4, brought to your attention by the Board of Community and World Concerns:
Rev. Dunkerson of Nebraska, a UCC delegate to the Middle East seeking to understand what is happening there, cites causes from post-WWI actions, to the continuing Arab-Israeli conflict. But, says Dunkerson, all stories lead us to this same place where “the stones cry out with stories remembered of blood shed long ago, and irrational decisions being made today in political parlors right here at home.” “One thing is clear,” he adds: “The work we do as people of peace, as people who proclaim kinship with all human beings is the most important work on earth.”
From the UCC Calendar of Prayer for July 11, brought to your attention by the Board of Community and World Concerns:
No congregation is the church. We are part of a much bigger picture – God’s worldwide mission, of which we are a part in the UCC. Our motto comes from Jesus’ prayer, “that they may all be one: (John 17:21) – brought back into relationship across all that divides us, whether point of view, class, creed, color or sexual preference.
