St Lukes Steel Drum Band - Oct. 24, 2010


The Music Committee invites you to the first Joyful Noise! Concert of the 2010-2011 season, this Sunday, October 24th at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary to come here the wonderfully entertaining St. Luke's Steel Band.

Under the direction of coach/arranger Debby Teason and assistant director Donna Johnson, St. Luke's Steel Band has gained a reputation as one of the area's most unique and exciting performing ensembles. With 25 members representing the islands of Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago, this talented ensemble from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in New Haven will present a visual and auditory treat.  Their repertoire includes soca and calypso, reggae, classical, sacred, jazz, popular and island folk music. The Band is the recipient of two gold medals at the Panorama Caribbean Music Fests in Virginia Beach.

As always, there is no admission charge to our Joyful Noise! Concerts, and the free will offering benefits the Myrtha Licht Music Fund at the church.

Come hear the awesome steel drums and get in a Caribbean mood!

We welcome to our church life all who seek the presence of God, no matter where you are on your faith journey.  We offer Inquirers’ Meetings to those interested in learning more about First Church and the United Church of Christ.  These meetings are also for those who seek membership, and are especially helpful to those coming from a different denomination or faith background.  The Inquirer/

New Member Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 6th at 11:30am in the Minear Library in Spencer House. Child care is available; please call the Church Office to request it.  Light refreshments will be offered.  New members will be received on May 13th during the 10:00am service. If you have questions, please speak with a minister.
