SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY 15 January 2012 -- 8:30 & 10:00 a.m.
“Blessed are the peacemakers….” Matthew 5: 9
THE GATHERING
PRELUDE: Air Gerre Hancock WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS INTROIT: I Believe This Is Jesus! African American spiritual CALL TO CELEBRATION: Leader: Listen to, O coastlands, pay attention, you peoples. The Lord called me before I was born, while I was in my mother’s womb God named me. People: God made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of God’s hand I was hid; and God said to me: “You are my servant.”
Leader: But I said, “ I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my cause is with the Lord.” People: God says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, I will give you as a light to the nations that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” *HYMNS & PSALMS # 332 Live Into Hope
(8:30) CONFESSION AND PRAISE
CALL TO CONFESSION UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION: O Eternal God, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named: we confess before thee the continuing divisions that mark our common life: divisions of race and clan, of class and culture. We have heard thy call to be the keepers of one another, but we have been less than inclusive in our response. We have professed love of neighbor, yet often have sought distance from neighbor. We have harbored stereotypes and prejudices, rather than sought knowledge and understanding. Forgive our sin; open our hearts and minds, and set us into the pathway of reconciliation, that thy earth may be made whole through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. SILENT PRAYER WORDS OF ASSURANCE *GLORIA PATRI (H & P # 579)
